Seamless activewear manufacturer sourcing / 08

Seamless activewear — and when cut and sew is the better route.

We identify seamless activewear manufacturers around circular knitting capability, yarn systems, zone mapping and fit approval. Seamless is not a finish applied to a normal garment — it is a different way of making one. The piece is knitted as a tube on a circular machine and the zones are programmed into the knit, so the decisions that matter happen before anyone cuts anything.

What buyers need to know

Choose seamless only when the product logic supports it.

02

The program is the pattern

In cut-and-sew, fit is corrected by moving a seam. In seamless, fit is corrected by editing the machine program — stitch density, needle selection and transfer points across the body of the garment. That makes early samples slower to iterate but produces a garment with no side-seam bulk and no chafe line where the leg rotates.

Compare the two routes
03

Zone mapping is the actual product

Compression at the waist, ventilation behind the knee, rib through the calf, a softer hand at the inner thigh — these are separate knit structures in one continuous piece. We specify the map against how the garment is used rather than copying a reference: studio wear rewards ventilation and soft hand, training wear rewards holding power through the seat and waist.

Choosing compression levels
04

Seamless runs a different yarn ratio

Seamless programs in this catalogue run around 90% nylon to 10% spandex, while the cut-and-sew styles sit at 75/25 or 78/22. That is not a cost decision. The knit structure itself supplies stretch and hold in seamless construction, so the elastane content does a different job — which is also why a seamless piece and a cut-and-sew piece in the same collection will never feel identical in the hand, and should not be specified as if they will.

Stretch and recovery
05

Where seamless is the wrong answer

Seamless limits color blocking, contour seaming and precise local fit correction. If your design language depends on panel lines, contrast piping or shaping the seat with a curved seam, cut-and-sew with four-needle six-thread flatlock will give you a better garment for less money. We will say so rather than sell the route we are asked about.

06

Minimums work differently here

Seamless cost sits in machine setup and program development rather than in pattern and labour, so the economics change shape: fewer sizes and colorways per program, and less benefit from splitting an order across many styles. Stock seamless programs still start at 100 pieces with mixed colors and sizes; custom seamless development is quoted against program complexity rather than a flat per-style number.

How MOQs work
07

Who actually knits it

SEAMDANCE places seamless programs with partner facilities running circular knitting machinery, selected per program against gauge, machine count and the zone map your design needs. Compliance documents and certificate scope are reviewed for the specific facility before the program is placed, and the same AQL 2.5 final inspection by our own QC team applies regardless of which partner runs it.

How our model works
08

What you can actually customize

Stock programs from 100 pieces: color from the developed range, your logo method, main and care labels, hangtags, polybag and carton marks. Custom development from 300–500 pieces per style adds fabric platform and weight, color matched to your Pantone reference, pattern and panel lines, waistband and trim construction, size chart and grading. Before you commit we tell you which side of that line a given change falls on — that is usually where the budget is won or lost.

09

How we de-risk a first order

A free logo mockup before sampling, so you see placement and scale before spending anything. Sample fees are credited back against your first bulk order. And if a fault is ours, we re-make it at our cost. Those are the terms a first program deserves.

010

What we need before we can quote

A category, a rough quantity per style and a launch date are enough to get a number back within 24 hours. Tech pack, fabric specification or a reference sample shorten the process if you have them. If you have none of it, that is a normal starting point rather than a problem — a reference garment and a target price is where most first collections begin.

The seamless zones looked high-tech — and missed the body

“The factory said it could be knitted. Nobody said what would happen on a body.”

She insisted on seamless. Cut-and-sew was what her product needed.

“I wanted the premium feel — not to sacrifice function just to say 'seamless'.”

Seamless activewear we can put your label on.

01

What is the difference between seamless and cut-and-sew activewear?

Seamless is knitted as one continuous piece on a circular machine, with compression, ventilation and rib zones programmed into the knit. Cut-and-sew is assembled from cut panels joined with flatlock or bonded seams. Seamless wins on chafe-free comfort and mapped zoning; cut-and-sew wins on color blocking, contour shaping and precise fit correction.

02

Does SEAMDANCE own the seamless knitting machines?

No. SEAMDANCE is an export trading and supply chain management company. Seamless programs are placed with specialist partner facilities selected per program, and we coordinate development, approvals, quality control and delivery. Certificate scope is verified for the facility actually running your order.

03

Why is the fabric composition different on seamless styles?

Seamless programs typically run around 90% nylon to 10% spandex because the knit structure itself provides stretch and hold, while cut-and-sew styles run higher elastane at 75/25 or 78/22. Expect a different hand feel between the two routes even within one collection.

04

What is the minimum for custom seamless development?

Custom seamless is quoted against program complexity rather than a flat per-style figure, because the cost sits in machine setup and program development. Stock seamless programs start at 100 pieces with mixed colors and sizes if you want to launch on a proven construction.

05

Can you run seamless and cut-and-sew in one collection?

Yes, and most collections should. Each style is placed on the route that suits it, under one brief, one color standard and one inspection standard — with the hand-feel difference between routes specified up front rather than discovered at fit review.
